It's official: local businessmen Rick Anderson and Rob Hall have bought Ottawa's new professional baseball club and tweaked its name to become the Ottawa Rapidz.

The new name is reworked slightly from the original Rapids moniker to reflect its new owners' other main business - online video rental company Zip.ca, of which Mr. Anderson is CEO and Mr. Hall is president.

The club also unveiled a brand-new logo which replaces the blue-and-white theme of the original with a red colour scheme, as Zip's logo is also red.

Can-Am League Commissioner Miles Wolff, along with Mr. Anderson and Mr. Hall, on Monday morning confirmed the acquisition, which the OBJ had reported on April 24 .

"Can-Am's professional players offer fans a rare opportunity to enjoy quality baseball at affordable prices. These players and managers are passionate about baseball, and they come not for the trapping of modern pro sports, but for the love of the game," stated Mr. Anderson, is now also CEO of Rapidz Sports and Entertainment. "Can-Am teams and players are grounded with their fans and communities, because the league emphasizes the classic baseball traditions of a relaxed family environment, quality play, stable play rosters and affordable prices. This is a winning approach, for Ottawa baseball fans and for Ottawa as a whole."

The Ottawa Rapidz season will open at the Ottawa Stadium on May 22 with a game against the New Jersey Jackals. The Rapidz will be playing a pre-season opener against the Quebec Capitales on May 18.
